Wreaths Across America at Wilmington National Cemetery

Brunswick Town Dar Chapter Wreaths Across America Chair

Let's try very hard in the next 2 months to buy more wreaths. Go to the Wreaths Across America tab at the top of this blog and click on it. There you will find information to help you purchase a wreath. Our WAA chair is available at the October and November meetings to take checks to purchase wreaths. You can also buy wreaths by credit card and by calling WAA and give them your e-mail address. You will receive an e-mail receipt. It is very important that you forward that e-mail to our WAA chair so she can keep track of the purchases.

Any problems with purchasing a wreath online contact the blog manager. Her info is in the yearbook and at the top of the blog.

We hope all 181 DAR members will buy a wreath for Wreaths Across America. As of October 1, 2021 we have 25 wreaths purchased from our chapter.

Constitution Week is observed nationwide September 17-23, 2021

Brunswick Town DAR Constitution Week Chairs for 2021-2023

Constitution Week is observed nationwide September 17-23, according to Brunswick Town Chapter Constitution Committee chairs.

Observed annually since NSDAR petitioned Congress with a resolution in 1955, the week includes targeted study in fifth grade classrooms as well as the Ringing of the Bells across America at 4pm September 17.

Chapters nationwide coordinate and encourage ringing of bells at churches, schools, courthouses, firehouses and homes to remind the public that the Constitution is the basis of America’s great heritage and the foundation for its way of life.

Brunswick Town Chapter also created displays at Rourk Library in Shallotte and Harper Library in Southport.

Here are just a few facts about the writing of the US Constitution:

It was written in the Pennsylvania State House where the Declaration of Independence was signed and where George Washington received his commission as Commander of the Army. It is now called Independence Hall.

Written in 1787, the Constitution was signed on September 17, but wasn’t ratified by the necessary nine states until 1788.

Of the 55 delegates attending the Constitutional Convention, 39 signed and 3 delegates dissented. Two of America’s Founding Father’s didn’t sign:  Thomas Jefferson, ambassador to France, and John Adams, ambassador to Great Britain.

The first national Thanksgiving Day was created by George Washington on November 26, 1789 as a way of giving thanks for the Constitution.

The US Constitution is the oldest and shortest of all the written constitutions.

Ben Franklin (89) was the oldest delegate. Jonathon Dayton (26) was the youngest.

Announcing: Crossnore Communities For Children

Dear Daughters,

I hope you’re enjoying Continental Congress. Wasn’t it great to see and hear the children from Kate Duncan Smith DAR School singing Thursday evening? And I hope you were able to attend the virtual DAR Schools Lunch yesterday.

I wanted to ensure you were aware a bit of news released in the past week from North Carolina’s own Crossnore School & Children’s Home. Crossnore is so much more than a school or a children’s home. They provide a COMMUNITY of services such as counseling and adoption facilitation as well as the charter school Williams Academy and group homes for displaced and abused children. They even have a farm and high ropes course in Winston-Salem and another office in Hendersonville!

Realizing the growth of their service and expanse of their mission to fully service all the varied needs of their children, Crossnore has recently adopted a new logo and brand. This does not change what they are doing. They still have a school. They still have group homes. The new brand just better recognizes ALL that they are ALREADY doing.

Attached is the press release and a link to Crossnore Communities for Children for more information.

Robynn R. Rutledge,
DAR Schools Chair, NCSDAR
(for approximately another 20 hours or so J – It’s been pure joy to serve as your chairman)

June 14th is Flag Day - Be Sure to Fly Your Flag

In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. ... Flag Day is not an official federal holiday.

Many Americans celebrate Flag Day by displaying the Red, White and Blue in front of homes and businesses. The day commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States.

In 1916, the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777 became a nationally observed event by a proclamation by President Woodrow Wilson. However, it was not designated as National Flag Day until August 3rd, 1949, when an Act of Congress designated June 14th of each year as National Flag Day.

Wreaths Across America is Offering a 2 For 1 Sale. Supporting this Sale Could Make a Big Difference December 18, 2021.

Wreaths Across America is offering a 2 for 1 Sale. This is a great deal. Even if you already bought wreaths last year this is this year and if you buy them now you will get double your order. Then maybe we can put a wreath on every grave this December 18th.  I am helping all groups that are sponsoring wreaths. Just let me know, call Phyllis Wilson at 910-253-1474 or e-mail me at par4wilson@gmail.com and I will help you order a wreath for the organization you want to sponsor. The goal here is to put a wreath on every grave in 2021. We came close this year to doing that. We placed 3,825 wreaths on Veterans graves. We needed 1,301 wreaths. If the same people who ordered wreaths for this year, they would get double the amount, which could put us just where we want next year on December 18, 2019, which is the date to place next year’s wreaths on graves.

If you are reading this then you are in our DAR Brunswick Town Chapter blog. So, just click on the Tab for Wreaths Across America and follow the directions.

If you would like to buy a wreath by check then contact Fran Carlsen, your Wreaths Across America chair at darfran@earthlink.com.
