The Brunswick Town Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution proudly announces the winners of the 2020 Good Citizen Award. This program honors and rewards an outstanding young person, from each of the Brunswick County public high schools, who exhibits the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
Bailey Smith, of North Brunswick High School is the valedictorian of her class and has already earned an Associate of Science degree from Brunswick Community College. She has held local, state and national leadership roles in FBLA and 4-H, as well as numerous volunteer positions in the community. Bailey is the daughter of Jerry and Barretta Smith of Leland and will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for a potential career in medicine.
Logan Selph is graduating at the top of his class from the Early College High School at BCC and has already been published in a scientific journal out of Harvard. His numerous science club activities and awards have allowed him to share his passion with younger students to get them interested in the subject. Logan is the son of James and Tamra Selph of Leland and he aspires to become an astrophysicist starting off at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall.
Brooke Kesky is the salutatorian of her class and has earned an Associate of Arts degree at BCC. She has held numerous leadership roles through the Student Government Association, Key Club International, local scholarship pageants, and as a children’s ministry leader. Leaning on her creative side, she plans to attend Virginia Tech and major in interior design. Brooke was our chapter’s overall winner selected to compete for the state and national DAR scholarship competitions. She is the daughter of Richard and Tammy Kesky of Bolivia.
Our fourth, previously announced Good Citizen Award winner from South Brunswick High School was Elizabeth Pratt of Southport. We are proud to support all of these fine students and look forward to hearing much more about their future success.
Unfortunately, the photos that DAR Good Citizen High School Chair, Jo-Ann Alford included with the wonderful article could not be included in the article, but Public Relations Chair, Teresa McLamb will send this press release with photos. So, look for it when you read out local newspapers.
