April Meeting Awards and Recognitions!

The April meeting was so interesting and filled with informative presentations and important recognition of chapter members!

The Community Service Award was established by  the DAR to recognize individuals in the
community for their voluntary achievement to meet a need that will benefit others.  On April
13th, the Brunswick Town Chapter of the DAR presented that award to Kristie Disbrow for her
insight in recognizing that children in this community did not have enough food at home to eat and for seeking help from her friends, her church and her community to establish a network
to provide for these children.  Her answer we now know as Matthews Ministry.

The mission of this organization is to eliminate weekend and non-school day hunger for Brunswick County children through a Backpack program.  In 2010 a teacher in one school asked for prayer for one student to have enough food to eat and today 13 schools and 470 students are served.  Volunteers pack and deliver food bags to the school so that the backpacks can be ready for the students to take home on Friday and returned on Monday to be filled again for the next weekend.

Pat Gooding presented an informative program on the Daughters of Liberty at our April meeting. She talked about some of the nontraditional roles women played during the American Revolution and how they aided the patriotic cause.

Fran Carlsen received a Certificate in recognition of her 40th DAR Anniversary! Fran has made a tremendous contribution to our Chapter over the years!

Annetta Clark won National DAR Third Place Award for her hand-woven baskets. Mary Sands, American Heritage Chair presented the award and Regent Diane Kuebert offers her congratulations.

Annetta Clark of the Brunswick Town Chapter of DAR has won a national award in Crafts and Basketry. Her Nantucket style basket, woven with a black linen thread came in third in the National contest and will be on display at the Continental Congress for the DAR this June where the DAR organization will be celebrating their 125th anniversary at Constitution Hall in Washington DC. She showed her winning basket at the April 13th Chapter meeting where Regent, Diane Kuebert, American Heritage Chairperson, Mary Sands and the Brunswick Town members congratulated her and got to see her basket before it goes to DC. Annetta will receive her certificate and pin at the American Heritage Forum at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Tuesday, June 14, 2016.
