Photos from the March DAR Meeting 2018

Pat Gooding, Vice Regent introduced today’s Program speaker, Martha Peterson, author of “The Widow Spy”.  Ms. Peterson opened by telling us a bit about herself.  She spoke of her first husband, John Peterson, Vietnam Veteran and CIA Officer and their time in Laos. Ms. Peterson told of his death while on a training mission and how ultimately his death led to her becoming a spy for the CIA.  She was the first female agent sent to the Soviet Union in Moscow. Ms. Peterson dealt in dead drop with an operative called Trigon.  Her time in Moscow ended with both her and Trigon being caught. Trigon took his own life and Ms. Peterson was traded back to the U.S. for a Russian Operative the U.S. Government had.

This was a sample of ways that Martha concealed items that were exchanged with agent Trigon.

Copies of "The Widow Spy" were available during the meeting at a book signing. You can also purchase her book at amazon.com and you can purchase it for your Kindle or I-pad

Diana Fotinatos, Chair Constitution Moment told about the only delegate who attended every meeting of the Constitutional Convention. He kept a journal during the Convention that was kept secret until after he died in 1836. The U.S. Government purchased the journal along with other papers in 1837 at a price of $30,000, which today with the rate of inflation would be $733,499.81. The journal was published in 1840. This delegate is known as the “Father of the Constitution”, served as the 4th U.S. President and known for having said, “If men were angels, no government would be necessary.” Diana asked members, “What is the name of this delegate?” Cindy Sellers answered James Madison correctly.
