Proclamation Signed by NC Governor Pat McCrory

L to R: Dr. Sarah Hawes, Constitution Week State Co-Chairman; Peggy Troxell, NC DAR State Regent; Governor Pat McCrory; Ann Yamrus, Constitution Week State Co-Chairman.

Peggy Troxell, State Regent of the North Carolina Society Daughters of the American Revolution received a  Proclamation signed by Governor Pat McCrory declaring September 17-23 Constitution Week in North Carolina at the state capitol in Raleigh, NC on September 4, 2013. Thanks to Sarah Hawes and Ann Yamrus, we were able to receive this proclamation in person in the Governor's office.

It was Gertrude S. Carraway, North Carolina's only DAR President General, who petitioned President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1955 to set aside September 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was later adopted by the U.S. Congress and signed into Public Law #915, on August 2, 1956.
