DAR members, Ann Cranford, Jo Betts Baxley, and Jackie Craft |
The
DAR meeting was held on March 13, 2013 at the Trinity Methodist Church
in Southport, NC at 10:00 a.m. There were three DAR members who participated in
the program. Ann Cranford, gave a talk about placement of pins and insignias on
the blue and white ribbon that members wear to meetings. She reviewed the cost
of pins, what pins you can wear on the ribbon and what pins should not be worn
on the ribbon. Jo Betts Baxley gave a talk on “Locating Female Ancestors” a
women’s identity was usually under that of her husband’s identity (a femme covert or covered woman.) She also brought in reference
books to share with the group. Jackie
Craft, registrar and acting regent, gave a talk on filling out your
supplemental form and how to send checks and explaining the cost of a
supplemental application. She reviewed the procedure for signing the
application and make sure you have at least one member to member name on the front of the application. There is a $10 fee if you want a supplemental certificate for your ancestor.
Prices have increased since the time this photo was taken. |
Anna C. Sutton, DAR Service for Veterans Chairman, has
requested from all chapters across the state of North Carolina to collect
greeting cards for veterans in facilities throughout NC. Brunswick Town Chapter
collected a variety of beautiful cards to send to Anna Sutton so that she can
have them distributed throughout the state. These cards will appear on trays
given to the veterans at various meals to brighten their day. What a great
idea.
