  Brunswick Town chapter's public relations chair did a beautiful job singing the "Star Spangled Banner" a cappella.

"Constitution in the Schools."

Co-Constitution week chairs spoke about the law stating that if schools receive government money, they are required to teach the Constitution at this time of year, every year.  She mentioned three main goals:  encouraging the study of the Constitution: reminding the public of America's great heritage, and U.S. citizens' responsibility to protect, defend, and preserve the Constitution.  In 5th grade social studies is when students receive education about American history.

Carol Hart and Diane Price are co-chairs for Constitution Week and they work with the 5th-grade teachers to decorate bulletin boards with historic pictures and information about the Constitution, such as the Preamble, the Bill of Rights, the Patriots who wrote the document.  They decorated with lots of red, white & blue to make the display eye-catching.  The bulletin boards are in the 5th-grade hall in each school. She explained the reason the students need to know why we needed a Constitution after the Articles of Confederation. Also, students need to know about the Bill of Rights and the Preamble. Carol showed posters that explain these things.

Constitution Week chairs visited five schools and two libraries with Constitution information:  Jessie Mae Monroe, Bolivia, Supply, Virginia Williamson, and Southport Elementary Schools and Harper and Rouark Libraries.

Brunswick Town DAR Historic Marker for the 250th Anniversary of America

 

In year 2026 America will celebrate its 250 anniversary of the Revolutionary War.  The National DAR has chosen to participate in the anniversary by declaring a multiyear historic marker program named “Revolutionary America 1775-1783.”  National DAR is receiving funding from the Pomeroy Foundation for at least 250 historic markers which will be installed at sites across the nation starting year 2022 through 2027. The markers will commemorate “points of interest” significant to Revolutionary America. The expenses for the historic marker are fully funded by the Pomeroy Foundation. I’m proud to announce that our Brunswick Chapter has completed an application to install a historic marker at the Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson State Historic Site where thousands of visitors will conveniently review the marker before entering the park and Visitors Center.  The application was sent to National in August but will take possibly over a year for approval and production of the marker.  A dedication ceremony will be scheduled after installation.  

The committee’s mission for the marker’s wording format was “to identify and honor the patriots of the Revolutionary War period who participated in the several battles and skirmishes and who contributed support within Brunswick County.”  The wording on the marker represents that mission.  It states:

Our historical facts for the marker consist of a listing of over 200 soldiers and patriots who actually were

involved in a battle, skirmish or event in Brunswick County. We proudly listed 10 members from our chapter

whose ancestors are registered as Brunswick County patriots with DAR.

Constiution Week 2023

 

THANK YOU Brunswick County Commissioner Pat Sykes for the proclamation for recognizing CONSTITUTION WEEK 2023 and the Brunswick Town Chapter of DAR. 

In the photo are public/media relations chair  Commissioner Pat Sykes and Brunswick Town DAR Regent  The entire Board of Commissioners is standing behind us. The proclamation was approved unanimously.

Brunswick Town DAR Members Celebrated the Signing of the Constitution at 4 pm on Sept. 17, 2023

 

DAR members who live in Winding River celebrated the signing of the Constitution at 4 pm on Sept. 17. The ladies are from The Brunswick Town DAR Chapter.

Our Constitution Week co-chair spoke about how the Constitution was written, and a DAR member recited the Preamble to the Constitution, and then they rang bells.

October 8, 2023 NSDAR Day of Prayer

October 8, 2023, the closest Sunday to October 11 founding of DAR, will be observed as the NSDAR Day of Prayer.  Following is the prayer sent by the Chaplain General:

Heavenly Father, we as Daughters praise You for the wondrous gifts You have given us.  As we observe the anniversary of the founding of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution we offer special thanks for the efforts of Eugenia Washington, Mary Desha, Ellen Hardin Walworth, and Mary S. Lockwood, whose foresight and determination brought to fruition the DAR.  For all those who have served as leaders and the many who have been such faithful stalwarts for God, Home, and Country we are grateful.  We ask Your continued favor as we work to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.  Help us to grow in service to our country and to our fellow man.  May the work done by the Daughters continue to be a tribute to the wondrous gift of Your love.  In the name of our Father, we pray.  Amen
