The Richard H Stewart Jr Post 543 of the American Legion and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 238 are holding their 17th annual Flag Retirement Ceremony at 6:00 pm, Thursday, July 3 at the BBT flagpole, corner of Moore and Howe streets in Southport, NC. As most of you know, the flag is burned in order to retire it, but did you know the proper protocol and meaning of each step? This year's guest speaker for the brief ceremony is Retired Lieutenant Colonel Bill Morgan. Bill is a two-tour combat officer who served in Vietnam.
