Dinner, Derby and Dance on May 4th 4-9pm
Here are two events, the 1st one is the Roll Call event about April 6th beside the rifle range with Friends of Ft Caswell Rifle Range and Brunswick Town Chapter NSDAR and the 2nd one is about the May 4th fundraiser for the rifle range

First Event:
On Saturday, April 6th at 11:00 am at the rifle range site memorial the Friends of Ft Caswell & the Brunswick Town Chapter NSDAR will sponsor another event Roll Calling our Brunswick County men that served in WWI.
The South Brunswick High School Color Guard will be present.
Jim McKee, Brunswick Town/Ft Anderson site manager will speak.
Carl Mauney, WWI Re-enactor in full uniform will discuss the Life of a WWI Soldier.
Cindy Sellers will present a medley of WWI songs.
Descendants, Ethan Pannkuk, Eagle Scout, & community members will Roll Call our Brunswick Co. WWI military
"Thor" the cannon will be fired by the Southport Historical Society Firing Crew.
Taps will be played.
Lite lunch w/coffee, tea or cocoa will be served by supporters.
Second Event:
Saturday, May 4 th is Dinner, Derby & Dance starting at 4:00 pm with Appetizers, Betting on Churchill Downs Kentucky Derby horses & getting acquainted. Two great bands to entertain us while we dance away the evening - or listen!
4-5:00 pm: Appetizers & Get acquainted. BYOB
5-6:00 pm: catered dinner, Jazz Music by Three to Get Ready
6:00 or 6:15 pm : Kentucky Derby Race at Churchill Downs KY.
7:00 - 9:00 pm : Dance to 50;s, 60's, and 70's Music by Trilogy

Information and Photos From the March 13, 2019 Brunswick Town DAR Meeting
Vice Regent Pat Gooding introduced speaker SAR member, John Braswell from High Point, NC. John spoke about Nathanael Greene’s road through NC to Yorktown giving us our Independence. He added to the story a bit telling us about Nathanael Greene’s wife, Catherine Littlefield Greene and her connection to the invention of the Cotton Gin. John Braswell has spoken at a DAR meeting several times and as usual he gave a captivating presentation. We look forward to inviting him back next year too.
Vice Regent Pat Gooding gave the
President General’s message. Ms. Dillon spoke of the inspiration she has
experienced visiting State Conferences. She ask members to look at the Marian
Anderson section of the DAR website, http://dar.org/MarianAnderson
for information commemorating the 80th anniversary, April 9th,
2019 of Marian Anderson’s concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Members are reminded Continental Congress is
June 26th-30th. If
not attending you will be able to follow along at http://www.dar.org/Congress.
National Defense Chair, Kathy Johnson told us about Dr. (Colonel) Janet Southby, an army nurse in Vietnam, 1965-66. Dr. Southby was part of the 85th Evacuation Hospital, the first hospital as far north as Quinhon. She cared for 44 combat battalions during her time in Vietnam. To learn more about her go to the National Defender March/April 2019 in the members section of the national website.
American Indian Minute Chair, Cheri Lambert spoke about Joseph Oklahombi, a Choctaw Code Talker. He is Oklahoma’s most decorated war hero. Cheri also told us of Charles Walter Veach, another Choctaw Code Talker with a long history of military and civilian service including serving in the National Guard against Poncho Villa.
Conservation Minute Chair, Mary Sands told us of seeing Venus flytrap plants in the Green Swamp. Governor Arthur Dobbs upon discovering them in 1760 described them as “The greatest wonder of the vegetable kingdom and a very curious unknown species. Upon touching the leaves they instantly close like a spring.” He called it Fly Trap. Scientist later added Venus to the name.
4 Vietnam Veterans, David R. Ash, John Edward Garlitz Jr., Willy Hahn and Gary Henderson were recognized at the March 2019 DAR meeting. Each was presented with a certificate and a lapel pin.
Constitution Chair, Diana Fotinatos told us The Boston Tea Party was held on December 16,1773 which inspired North Carolina to hold its own response to the Tea Act passed by British Parliament. The Edenton Tea party held to boycott the tea act on October 25, 1774. Diana stated: Half of the participants were women. Diana asked is this true or false? Gwen Causey answered false correctly. The Correct answer is 100% of the participants were women. Diana then went on to tell us about the Edenton Tea Party which was led by women and organized by Penelope Barker.

Brunswick Town Chapter will be touring Brunswick Town on April 23 at 10:00am with Site manager Jim McKee. Sign-up sheets will be at the March and April Meetings.
