DAR Brunswick Town Chapter’s book club Liberty Daughters held their last meeting on Saturday, February 4th, at a member’s home. One of the members led the discussion on our book "A Place Called Freedom " by Ken Follett which was rated with a vote of 7.5.
A Place Called Freedom is a work of historical fiction set in 1767. It follows the adventures of an idealistic young coal miner from Scotland who believes there must be more to life than working down the pit. The miner, Mack McAsh, eventually runs away to find work and a new life in London and eventually a new life in the new world of Virginia. There were several eye-opening events about Caucasian Scottish slaves and their families and the abusive behavior from owners in the hierarchy system in that era.
Our next meeting is Saturday, April 1 with hostess Marti Morgan, location TBD. She will lead the discussion on the book "Fourteenth Colony, The Forgotten Story of the Gulf South During America's Revolutionary Era" by Mike Bunn.
