On Tuesday, July 3rd at 4 p.m. the Regent and Vice Regent will hand out Flags of the USA and
Constitution bookmarks at the Naturalization Ceremony in Southport at Fort Johnston. Our new North Carolina State DAR Regent, Carole Weiss will also be in attendance. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the chapter will hold a reception at the Southport Community Center for new citizens. Fran Carlsen is chair of the Naturalization Ceremony and Dianna Suttle is chair of the reception with Connie Hendrix assistant chair.

Regent Carol Jutte and Vice Regent Pat Gooding gave out American Flags to the 78 immigrants who were awarded naturalized citizenship. DAR NC State Regent Carole Weiss was among the distinguished guests on hand for the ceremony.
After the ceremony, DAR members welcomed the new citizens and their families to a reception held at the Southport Community Center where they enjoyed sandwiches, cookies, chips, cup cakes and drinks. Some members were dressed in Colonial Period costumes and were asked to pose with the new citizens. One such citizen was Nesha Levatino from Trinidad. DAR member Martha Koletar was dressed as Betsy Ross, and member Phyllis Wilson as a colonial lady, and Nesha asked if she could have her picture taken with them. Both Martha and Phyllis found Nesha engaging and with an outgoing personality. They said Nesha’s joy at becoming a U.S. Citizen was obvious, and that her smile was infectious
Nesha has been in the states for quite a few years, first living in Lindenhurst, Long Island with her husband, Michael. They now live in Wake Forest, N. C., a town she says she loves. Since first arriving here, Nesha has wanted to become a citizen. She is just one of those people who had the determination and willingness to study hard to achieve this aspiration and goal that she had set for herself.
When asked what she liked about becoming a US Citizen, Nesha replied, “I know and believe that the United States of America is the greatest country in the world, and I love everything about it. Being a citizen means that I get to be a part of this great nation. To be able to work towards goals and dreams of owning a house and being proud and grateful for all that I have accomplished because of the opportunities that was given to me by many good people along my journey. GOD BLESS THE USA!”
Nesha currently works as a Sales Supervisor for a bank. She enjoys gardening, cooking, crocheting, camping and exercising. About her life here, Nesha adds, “I love doing everything with my husband. He’s my best friend and my biggest supporter in everything I do, big or small. I love Jesus and am grateful for this wonderful life He has blessed me with.” Welcome, Nesha!
