On April 10, 2013 The Brunswick Town Chapter of the Daughters of
the American Revolution held their awards luncheon at The Atlantic Seafood and Steak Restaurant in Southport, NC.
The program was held in recognition of the student winners of the
group’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. (JROTC) scholarship
awards. The DAR criterion for selection is: Cadet must demonstrate qualities of
dependability and good character. A cadet must adhere to military discipline,
demonstrate leadership, and have a fundamental and patriotic understanding of
the importance of service to both community and country. Nora Hickam, National
Defense chairman presented certificates to Stormy DeLong of West Brunswick
High School; Jordan Wrenn of South Brunswick High School, and Mayah
Willis-Thomas of North Brunswick High School. Nora also presented a DAR medal and a
$50 cash gift at their school assembly programs in April.
All three cadets will be attending college this year.They have
been honored for their academics, Americanism, Patriotism, leadership,
dedication,and hard work while being in the Junior ROTC. They have
wonderful support from their families and friends. These were very impressive
and one sees these cadets as wonderful future leaders in public life or in the
military.
Nora Hickam presented C/CPT Mayah Willis-Thomas the DAR award
at North Brunswick High School.
