Brunswick Town DAR Meeting September 14, 2022

At the September 14th DAR meeting, Brunswick Town Vice-Regent introduced the program speaker, Jonathan Schleier, founder of the Public Archeology Corps, a local 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.  According to Mr. Schleier, archeological sites found on public lands are protected by federal and state regulations, but sites on private property aren’t afforded the same protections.  This is when his group becomes involved.  His organization will work with owners to gain access and protect any artifacts and obtain history prior to redevelopment taking place.  His presentation included information and slides on a site his group is working on in Wilmington, NC.  The PAC is the only Cape Fear area archeological outreach program and it’s easy to become involved.  More information on this worthwhile organization can be found in our September Newsletter or the organization’s website at www.publicarcheologycorps.org

Brunswick Town blog manager reported for the Wreaths Across America chair at the September meeting, who is recovering from illness.  Information was distributed to assist members in purchasing wreaths to be laid at Wilmington National Cemetery later this year.   The wreaths are $15.00 each and may be purchased by either telephone, or over the internet, or checks made payable to the Brunswick Town Chapter could be given to our Treasurer, who would then be able to make a larger purchase on behalf of the Chapter.  More information can be found in our September Newsletter. While on the blog, go to the Wreaths Across America tab and follow the directions to order a wreath by computer or by calling the phone number listed.  Be sure to use NC0009P when ordering wreaths.
