Dear North Carolina Daughters,
The Fayetteville VA Medical Center needs our help and donations. Here are 3 important ways that you can make a tremendous difference:
1. Hand-crafted cotton masks are requested to give to patients (inpatients and outpatients). If you and/or your friends are making masks at home, please donate as many as possible to the Fayetteville VAMC. There are many patterns available online for those who can sew these items.
2. Coloring books for adults, puzzles books (Word Search preferred-regular and large print versions), colored pencils, crayons, and markers are needed to put into activity backpacks which will be delivered by VAMC caseworkers to their Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) at-home patients. Several other personal care items will also be added to help them deal with their current isolation.
3. Personal and Chapter Checks for any amount made out to VAVS 8004 with "Activity Books" on the memo line will be gratefully accepted and used by the Chief of Voluntary Services to purchase these arts and crafts supplies and puzzle books for the backpacks. Personal checks are tax-deductible.
Dollar Tree stores have these puzzles and coloring books for adults in stock for only $1 each. But if you want to avoid shopping and postage costs, sending checks will be the easiest way to help our Veterans and the staff at the Fayetteville VAMC. When the backpacks are filled, all the extra art supplies and puzzle books will be given out to other VAMC inpatients, including the CLC Unit residents, who are always grateful for our help with donations throughout the year.
Please indicate that your gifts are from you AND the DAR. When I got this request from Norma Fraser, VAVS Chief at the Fayetteville VAMC, she said:
"I know when you put the word out on our behalf, great things happen. Please let the DAR know how much I appreciate their unwavering support. Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
The staff in Fayetteville is still enjoying sharing the plethora of 2019 Baby Shower Gifts that we provided for their maternity patients. Now we have a new challenge. I am confident that we can come through again, knowing that all of our gifts do make a positive difference for these deserving Veterans!
Please send your checks and/or donated masks, puzzle books, and adult coloring books to:

And a heartfelt "thank you" from me for all that you do In Service to Veterans,
