Registrar’s Corner
By Jane Johnson August has been a busy month with three new members receiving their National Numbers and two more receiving verification of their applications and another application on its way to Washington. We have four prospective members who will be signing their applications in September. We also have several people who have expressed interest in transferring their membership to Brunswick Town Chapter. Please be on the lookout for new faces at the September meeting, and welcome them. New members for August are Elizabeth Williams, Betty Morrison and Margaret R Bishop. New members for September are Susan Eckman and Linda Salley. New Pending member is Kelsey Wetherington. The latest date for verification of supplemental application seems to be stuck at May 18, 2018 but we hope for an update soon. With all the influx of new members, I have fallen behind on working with supplements, but they are by the side of my desk and are not lost or forgotten.
REPORTS OF DAR COMMITTEES
Literacy Promotion
By Carol Hart, Literacy Promotion Chair
We are again collecting children’s books to assist the Brunswick Family Assistance in their Holiday
Book Share program. These books are an integral part of Christmas/Holiday gifts to children who do not have access to reading material. Children’s books for any age, infants to teens, are gratefully anticipated by the Brunswick Literacy Council. Their job is to sort the books into age-level and interests so that each child receives books they will enjoy. Books can be new or gently used. Please bring them to the October, and November meetings, and put them in the Holiday-wrapped box. You will make a child’s holiday special!

It's never too early to plan a birthday celebration. In 2026 the USA will host a 250th anniversary—250 years since the War of Revolution. DAR National has announced Project Patriot to help educate and raise awareness of the men and women who sacrificed their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to become an independent nation. You can participate in several ways, and one is by telling the story of your patriot. Forms will be available at the meeting or by contacting dianebprice@aol.com. We will share the information in a variety of ways to increase awareness of our history and Our Patriot's Story. They all have a story to be told, but you have to share.
Newsletter Chair Teresa McLamb stated beginning in October she would like to start running profiles of our members. Teresa asked if a member has someone she would like to know more about to inform her of the member’s name. She told of the importance for her end of the year report to have copies of news articles and to please bring these in to Dana Majernik, Historian. Dana will give Teresa the duplicates.
Wreaths Across America Chair Fran Carlsen told us Wreaths Across America would be Saturday, December 14th. All members are welcome to participate that day at the National Cemetery in Wilmington. Fran showed the form for ordering wreaths, stating they are $15.00 a piece or $60.00 for 4 wreaths. Our chapter receives $5.00 for each wreath donated by a member. Forms are on the information table. If ordering by phone or online please give the Location ID as NCWMCE and the Fundraising Group ID as NC0009P. There is a Wreaths Across America Tab with a direct website for our chapter to get credit for the donations plus a phone number to call if you prefer ordering that way.
