Assisting Those Affected by Recent Hurricanes

We continue to monitor the effects of the recent Hurricanes and subsequent Tropical Storms and communicate with State Regents regarding those in the affected areas. It has been devastating for so many of our fellow citizens and members, and we send our sincere prayers to all those affected by these tragedies so close on the heels of one another.
For those members looking to provide assistance to communities affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, we have updated previous assistance information that was sent out last week. We continue to encourage members who are looking for ways to help those impacted by the storms to support trusted national or local area disaster relief organizations providing assistance in the affected areas through monetary and other requested donations, or through volunteer opportunities arranged through these local organizations.
For those who are interested in supporting area veterans and schools affected by the storm, please see the updated announcement “Assisting Those Affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.” At our upcoming Executive Committee and National Board of Management meetings we will be deciding how the National Society can best assist recovery efforts with donations toward DAR mission based relief initiatives.
Our members across the world continue to express concern for all those affected, and of course for our own members. Those of you hoping to show your support directly to your fellow Daughters in the devastated areas can contact the District Directors of the areas most affected in Texas and the Florida State Regent is still assessing the needs of members in her state. More details and their contact information can be found on the Members’ Announcement “Assisting Those Affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.”
It is a difficult time for many in the Southern region hit by these storms, as well those in the Northwest dealing with wild fires, and sadly we know we will continue to face future natural disasters. What brings my heart peace is knowing that our members are resilient and are passionately dedicated to helping one another in their communities. Thank you, Daughters, for your unwavering support of your communities in both good times as well as the most difficult times.
