Community Service Award Winner for 2014

Herbert Pritchard, Southport resident was selected by the Brunswick Town Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as the 2014 recipient of the Community Service Award. DAR members, Kathy Miller, Community Service Chair, and Phyllis Wilson, NC State Public Relations Chair presented Herb with the certificate and pin at the December 10, 2014 DAR meeting held at Island Way Restaurant in Oak Island, NC.

Herb is an artist who paints oil portraits for families that have lost a loved one in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. This is a special project and mission in Herb’s life to “Remember soldiers who died in recent wars.” He recently offered to paint portraits for families of suicide victims that have returned to the US after serving their country in these two wars. Herb paints a portraits for the families of these men and women, and gives it to them as gifts. He has done this for many appreciative people and will perform this service for anyone in the country who asks. What a unique and beautiful tribute for those who have sacrificed so much.

Herb volunteers with Lower Cape Fear Hospice and; LifeCareCenter in Brunswick County. His background in counseling and psychology brought added skills and talents that were helpful with all the patients he serves, especially in relating to those with special needs. Herb also volunteered with Southport/Oak Island Counseling Service, Southport Elementary School kindergarten, Hope Harbor Shelter and Stephens Ministry.  Herb’s patriotic contributions to the memory of fallen soldiers and his volunteer positions has earned him this distinction in his community.
