The January DAR meeting was held at the United Methodist Church in Southport, NC. Living History Interpreter,Charen Fink describing the life of women and the various functions they performed during the Civil War. They were nurses, doctors, spies and some were even “bad girls”. Charen brought a mannequin dressed in a ball gown of the era and explained the various layers of clothing they wore. The ball gowns were never washed, just the under garments. Charen Fink's range of topics for discussion are: Civil War Women, Civil War Medicine, Victorian Mourning Customs, Victorian Christmas and Pioneer Women. Cindy Sellers, chapter registrar, has new prospective member Jane Johnson from Bald Head Island sign membership papers at the January meeting. Our membership is up to 116 ladies.
