April 6th at 10:30 a.m. at the WWI Rifle Range Pit, Caswell Beach

The Great War WWI Centennial - America declared war on the German Empire on April 6, 1917.  The National Society is asking chapters to recognize this important date and inform the community of its importance.  To partake in this endeavor chapter members are asked to meet on Thursday, April 6th at 10:30 a.m. at the WWI Rifle Range Pit, Caswell Beach with the assistance from chapter member, Norma Eckard. A group picture will be taken and sent to the newspapers to inform the public of this date. Members in attendance will name their family member who participated in WWI. Norma suggests parking in the parking area of the condos closest to the WWI Rifle Range Pit. Norma informed us the Friends of Fort Caswell Rifle Range has created a memory wall.  She invites all of us to submit pictures, stories and documents of our WWI Veterans for the memory wall. We can do so by emailing them to ftcaswellriflerange@gmail.com

Ron and Norma Eckard are shown here with Russell Barlowe, the husband of the late Harriet Barlowe, who was a member of our chapter and very active in the progress to stabilize the historical structure of the WWI Rifle Range on Caswell Beach that they discovered in 2011. Harriett and Russ have been very much involved in this project over the years. Harriett no doubt smiles down on the tremendous progress they have made to date on a project she so loved.
