Brunswick Town DAR Chapter Celebrates 47 Years at their January Meeting

Brunswick Town, Vice Regent introduced the program speaker for the meeting, Pat Kirkman of the Southport Historical Society. Ms. Kirkman, who authors a Facebook blog entitled “Stories Beneath the Silent Stones,” gave her presentation specifically about the Old Smithville Burying Ground. She briefly touched upon the history of Smithville, which later became Southport, and then focused on one of the oldest tombstones in the graveyard, that of Sempronius Russ. She delighted members with stories about the Russ family and thanked our Chapter for placing a new marker on his gravesite in October 2020. More information on this worthwhile local organization can be found at www.southporthistoricalsociety.org.

Our DAR Regeant from the Brunswick Town Chapter introduced the chairman from the Constitution Committee and each month there is a question that they ask. If a member answers the question she will get a gift.

Constitution Minute:  The chapter's co-chair presented the Constitution Committee’s report on the patriots who made up the Style and Arrangement Committee, which prepared the final form of our Constitution. 38 delegates signed the Constitution on September 17, 1787, and it took 3-1/2 years for the document to be ratified. she asked if any of our members could name two of the six men on this committee.
The answer: George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander, Hamilton, and James Madison.
Our Vice-Regent was able to name two of these men. Congratulations!

Brunswick Town members enjoyed a piece of the delicious birthday cake to help celebrate our chapter's birthday of 47 years. It was founded in 1976.

Wreaths Across America is Offering a 2 For ! Wreath Sale Until January 15th at Midnight!

As of Sunday January 18, 2023 we have 106 wreaths purchased. Way to go DAR members. Let's keep this up for today and tomorrow. The last day to buy wreaths and get 2 for 1 is Sunday at 12:00 midnight. Our chapter is in 1st place for having the most wreaths purchased in 2023 so far.Although the 2 for 1 is over we can still buy wreaths.

Wreaths Across America is offering a 2-for-1 Sale. This is a great deal. Even if you already bought wreaths last year this is this year and if you buy them now you will get double your order. Then maybe we can put a wreath on every grave this December 16th.  The goal here is to put a wreath on every grave in 2023. We did it 2 years in a row.

If you are reading this then you are in our DAR Brunswick Town Chapter blog. So, just click on the Tab for Wreaths Across America and follow the directions.

Two ladies purchased 7 wreaths from our chapter and now  Brunswick Town has 14 wreaths. I hope more members will take advantage of this offer. It ends on January 15th at midnight. If many members would do this now they wouldn't need to do it again in September. Then we have a greater chance of putting a wreath on every grave at Wilmington National Cemetery.
