Brunswick Town - Site for New Historic Marker

On June 15, several members of the Historic Marker Committee assembled at the Brunswick Town Visitor Center to choose an appropriate site for the historic marker. The committee has been meeting monthly since March, headed by co-chairs Pat Steele and Dee Antonio. An existing circular brick walkway in front was chosen for placement but there is much work to be done before that happens.

Pvt. Robert Bollie Stanley's Family Received Purple Heart and other medals after 105 years

Hello DAR ladies,

Ron Eckard, husband of DAR member Norma Eckard was able to get all the military requirements in to award Pvt. Robert Bollie Stanley his rightful Purple Heart.  The news came a week or so ago. After getting in touch with Fred and other members of his family we decided to get together at the Brierwood Golf Course where the Stanley Cemetery is located on Saturday, June 17 at 11:30. We will honor the Stanley family with  Pvt. Robert Bollie Stanley's Purple Heart and other medals. This is a great honor that finally made it to the Stanley family after 105 years. (You may want to bring a folding chair, Norma only has a few chairs for the family.)We plan to read his profile, the medals awarded, and If Norma can get in touch with a VFW, invite them to the service.  Maybe some of our members might want to attend, you are part of this event.  Just think the Stanley family is awarded a Purple Heart after a century, 105 years!

In DAR Gratitude,

Norma and Ron Eckard
