Dear Descendants of Honored Americans,

As representatives of your distinguished organization, Moores Creek National Battlefield and the Moores Creek Battleground Association cordially invite you to be honorary members in the wreath laying ceremony that will begin the 238th Anniversary of the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge on Saturday, February 22, 2014. If your group would like to be part of this ceremony, please plan to arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. so you have ample time to park and assemble just outside the Visitor Center.

If you have a flag, we encourage you to carry it in the procession. A flag stand is provided at the starting location for the ceremony so you can store your flag there until the program begins. A wreath will be laid at the Women’s and James Moore Monument this year in addition to the Loyalist and John Grady Monument. For those who wish to present a separate wreath during this ceremony, we will be propositioning these at the ceremonial markers.

The ceremony begins promptly at 10:00 a.m., rain or shine. If your organization will be bringing your own wreath please arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. If you cannot attend the opening ceremony, we hope you will be able to enjoy some of the other events throughout the day. To learn more about the weekend activities please contact the parks visitor center.

Please call or email Supervisory Park Ranger Matthew Woods at (910) 283-5591 or Matthew_Woods@nps.gov to let us know if your group will be participating this year. Also, we invite all interested chapters of your organization to participate, so please feel free to forward this letter to others. Please call if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Ricardo Perez
Superintendent

If you plan to place a wreath at the Patriot’s Grave or participate in the Wreath Laying Ceremony you must be at the Visitors Center at 9:00am.  As last year, these wreaths will be placed at the Patriot Grave by the Park staff.  I suggest that you have a ribbon with the name of your chapter on it.  Parking at the Wreath Laying Ceremony is to your left on entrance to the Park.  Just tell the volunteers at the front gate that you are attending the Wreath Laying Ceremony.

The Atkinson Volunteer Fire Department will serve Bar B Q sandwiches, hot dogs, coffee and a variety of soft drinks at Patriot’s Hall.  Currie Community Baptist Church, on exit from the Park to your left, just on the other side of the Post Office, is serving a sit down buffet lunch with coffee, tea and water for $10.00.  I ate with them last year and the food and desserts were wonderful.

Thank you for your patience,

Barbara Price Lewis
