100th Anniversary of the Marking of the Daniel Boone Trail in Cumberland Gap, KY

We are excited to share our plans and confirm that President General Lynn Forney Young will be in attendance! Daughters from three other states will join us for this special event June 12th and 13th, 2015.

We will begin our bus trip in Fayetteville, NC the morning of June 12th, traveling westward along I-40 aboard Cross Country Coach.  We’ll make stops in Hillsborough, Winston-Salem, Hickory, and Asheville gathering Daughters along the way.  We’ll make a quick stop for lunch and then we’re off to Middlesboro, KY.

On Friday evening, June 12th, we will hold a reception at the Pine Mountain State Resort Park’s CV Whitney Conference Center, a wonderful venue and one in which we are proud to host our President General.  From the venue, you can see beautiful Cumberland Gap!  Daughters form North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky will gather to make this an evening to remember.

The reception will be followed by a delicious buffet dinner of roasted round of beef or herb roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and seasonal vegies.  Dessert options include a choice of Chocolate Cake or Peach Cobbler. We are exploring a vegetarian option, as well.

The morning of June, 13th, we’ll gather at 9:30 am at Cumberland Gap Visitor’s Center for the Centennial Ceremony.  Afterward, the President General and State Regents will  lay a wreath at the four state marker, which is about a 20 minute walk from the Visitor’s Center.  Those not wishing to attend that portion of the ceremony can enjoy activities at the Visitor’s Center, as they are also hosting the Cumberland Gap Genealogy Jamboree that day.
.
This short 2 day trip allows our daughters the opportunity to represent DAR for a once in a lifetime event. No doubt, lots of photos will be taken! Not only will you enjoy fun and fellowship, you’ll have the opportunity to host the President General at this wonderful centennial celebration.

Cost to reserve the bus trip and dinner is $105, due now.  (The bus registration form is attached.) due on or before May 3rd at State Conference. The cost for your room is not included in this amount.

You will need to reserve your room directly with the Holiday Inn Express. To reserve your room, speak to Kim (606) 248-6860.. If you have a specific person with whom you wish to room, be sure to let me know on your registration.
We must have 50 NC Daughters attend in order to utilize the Cross Country Coach service for this great rate.  Cost per member for the bus and the dinner is $105. You will pay the hotel directly for your room. Of course, you’ll also be responsible for snacks and meals on the way there and back, but the rate is very affordable to encourage as many NC Daughters as possible attend.
We are going to have a great “once in a lifetime” trip. And, the photos we take will be the ones your great-granddaughters admire 100 years from now. What a legacy we are leaving form them!
That being said, please consider joining us for a fun filled, quick trip. Be sure to share this information with your chapter, friends, and family.  I look forward to seeing you on the bus!
