DAR Awards Junior Officer Training Corp Winners

On April 13, 2011 The Brunswick Town Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held an awards luncheon at the Atlantic Seafood & Steak Restaurant in Southport, NC.

The program was held in recognition of the student winners of the group’s Junior Officer Training Corp (JROTC) scholarship awards. The purpose of JROTC is "to instill in students in [United States] secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, and personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment. The young women who received the DAR, JROTC award had to demonstrate academic excellence, dependability, good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership and the fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of the Reserve Officer Training Corp.” Trudy Tanzillo, Chairman of National Defense Committee, introduced the award winners: Emily Miller, December Dawn Martin and Tammi Wright.

Emily Miller is a 9th grade student from South Brunswick High School. She is a member of JROTC Drill Team and the school Softball Team.After graduating from college, Emily plans to work with the Veteran's Administration.  Dawn Martin is a senior at West Brunswick High School. She is member of the JROTC, National Honor Society and the Theatre club. Her future plans are to attend BCC for two years then transfer to UNCW to obtain a degree in business. Tammi Wright is a senior at North Brunswick High School. She is a JROTC Supply Officer (S-4), member of the National Honor and French Honor Societies. She plans to attend BCC then pursue a career in nursing.
