The Brunswick Town Chapter of the DAR and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 238 are holding their 13th annual Flag Retirement Ceremony at 6:00 pm, Sunday, July 3 at the BBT flagpole, corner of Moore and Howe streets in downtown Southport. Many of you have given flags to be retired. As most of you know, the flag is burned in order to retire it, but did you know the proper protocol and meaning of each step? St James own Tom Krieger will be the guest speaker for the brief ceremony. Tom is a graduate of the USMA at West Point, NY. His nephew is Rich Stewart who is being memorialized earlier in the day and whose family were instrumental in arranging to have the 9/11 Flag brought to Southport. Tom is honored to speak to us on behalf of Rich's family. Submitted by Ann Newton, St. James resident and member of the Southport DAR. |
